Tago scores 28 for Rainbow Wahine in loss to Pilots

The University of Hawaii women’s basketball team lost 76-47 to Portland on Friday in Portland, Ore., in the season opener for both teams.
Julissa Tago scored 28 points for the Rainbow Wahine on her 20th birthday. She made a career-best four 3-pointers on 10 attempts, and was 12-for-21 from the field overall, but her teammates combined to go 5-for-34.
Sarah Toeaina had seven points and six rebounds for UH, and Tia Kanoa had five assists.
Julie Spencer scored 15 points for the Pilots, who went in front 16-6 with 2 minutes, 27 seconds left in the first quarter and led by at least 10 the rest of the way. Six players scored in double digits for Portland.
Hawaii will play at Seattle on Sunday.
