Rainbow Warriors fall in 5 to undefeated 49ers

The Maui News The No. 1-ranked Long Beach State University men’s volleyball team fought off four match points in the fifth set to defeat No. 6 Hawaii 25-16, 17-25, 26-24, 25-27, 22-20 on Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.

Hawaii saw its four-match win streak snapped despite leading 14-12, 18-17, and 19-18 in the final set. The Rainbow Warriors fell to 17-7 overall and 5-4 in the Big West Conference. LBSU improved to 24-0 and 9-0.

The 49ers were led by 22 kills from T.J. Defalco, while UH got 20 kills apiece from Stijn van Tilburg and Rado Parapunov.

The two teams meet again tonight.
