Toledo captures second Oi Rio Pro title

Brazil’s Filipe Toledo won the Oi Rio Pro on Friday in front of a thousands of fans at Saquarema in Rio de Janeiro.

Toledo defeated Australia’s Wade Carmichael 17.10-8.00 in the final to claim his second World Surf League Championship Tour win in his home country and the sixth in his career. With the win, he vaulted from ninth into second place on the Jeep Leaderboard after four tour stops.

Australia’s Julian Wilson, who lost to Toledo in the semifinal round earlier Friday, remains atop the season standings with 19,415 points. Toledo has 18,075 points.

Oahu’s Ezekiel Lau lost to Carmichael in the semifinals, 13.17-9.27.

Lau moved up to sixth in the standings, while two-time defending world champion John John Florence of Oahu is 17th after his equal-ninth finish.
