Oahu squad advances to Little League World Series

The Honolulu Little League team defeated Rocklin, Calif., 11-2 on Saturday in San Bernardino, Calif., to win the West Regional and punch its ticket to the Little League World Series.

Honolulu scored four runs in each of the fourth and fifth inings to break open a one-run game and become the fifth Hawaii team to make it to Williamsport, Pa., since 2002.

The last three Hawaii teams to play in the LLWS, all from Oahu — Ewa Beach in 2005 and Waipio in 2008 and 2010 — all made the championship game, with the ’05 and ’08 teams winning it all.

Honolulu’s first game of the LLWS is Friday against Peachtree, Ga. The game will be televised live on ESPN.
