The University of Hawaii women’s basketball team finished its nonconference schedule with a 79-78 overtime loss to Nevada in Reno on Saturday.

The Rainbow Wahine (4-9) were led by Julissa Tago, who scored 24 points, and Lauren Rewers, who added 17. The pair combined to shoot 18-for-28 from the field.

“Lauren (Rewers) an Jay (Tago) put together their best games of the season for us,” UH coach Laura Beeman said. “But it comes down to consistency. Our non-conference schedule was designed to prepare us for our conference schedule, and I feel like we’re ready.”

Hawaii opens Big West Conference play Jan. 5 against Cal State Fullerton on the road.

“This team has shown it can come back and overcome deficits, we almost pulled it off today in regulation but fell just short,” Beeman said. “If we can take what we have and be more consistent, then we’ll have a chance to compete with every team in the Big West.”

Nevada (4-7) was led by Terae Briggs, who scored 24 points.
