Governor bans conversion therapy on LGBTQ youth
HONOLULU (AP) — Gov. David Ige last week signed into law a bill that bans therapists from offering “conversion therapy” to LGBTQ youths under the age of 18.
“The overwhelming scientific research has shown that conversion therapy is not effective and frequently has lasting, harmful psychological impacts on minors,” Ige said Friday at a bill-signing ceremony. “This practice is neither medically nor ethically appropriate.”
Sen. Stanley Chang introduced the bill, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported .
