The Sentry Tournament of Champions will tee off 2019 as the Professional Golf Association season opener from Wednesday to Jan. 6 on the world-famous Plantation Course at Kapalua Resort.

The tourney is broadcast to more than one billion viewers in 226 countries globally in 32 languages. And it’s got great appeal to spectators on island who wish to be in the thick of the $6.5-milion purse action.

“The Sentry Tournament of Champions is one of the best for allowing fans to ‘get up close and personal’ to its elite, champions-only field,” explains Sentry Executive Director Nancy Cross. “Highlights include the Aloha Kick Off prior to the first tee time Jan. 3, featuring a Hawaiian blessing and entertainment, and we’ll launch the new Aloha Friday on Jan. 4. Fans and players are encouraged to wear island attire, and we will have prizes.

“The whole tourney will be fun and tasty for spectators with food trucks onsite, a shave ice booth and Pro-Am food by Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar and Alchemy Maui. And there will be a partnership with Corkcicle for branded cups filled with signature Grey Goose cocktails at the 19th hole Grey Goose Bar. The Grey Goose signature cocktail is called Mea Lanakila, meaning “champion” in Hawaiian. It has strawberry puree, lemon juice, grapefruit juice and garnish, and simple syrup.

“The Sentry Tournament of Champions takes its food options seriously, and a big part of expanding that in 2019 is the addition of three food trucks, two of which will be in the Entry Experience,” says Cross.

“The three food trucks featured this year are Hooked (seafood), Mr. Taco (Mexican) and Paniolo (barbecue). Keep your eye open for fun menu items highlighting players in the incredible field.”

Eco-conscious Big Wave Shave Ice is a family-owned business operating in Napili Bay. It it will be serving its shave ice in the Fan Village behind sky boxes on the 18th hole for everyone to purchase.

In addition, there is a community kick-off event from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Campbell Park off Front Street in Lahaina that is free and open to the public with prize giveaways and more.

Back in Kapalua at the Plantation Course, the general concession area will feature Wisconsin bratwursts as a nod to the sponsor from that state.

Third and final rounds are Jan. 5 (with a Dude Perfect Youtube stars meet and greet) and Jan. 6. You may choose from various tickets and passes. Active military, veterans, and three children per adult will get in for free. For tickets, parking, cab, Uber and shuttle information, visit www.sentrytournamentofchampions.com.
