INDULGE YOUR SENSES, CELEBRATE SENSUALITY AT ADULT HULA COMPETITION.

Kicking off Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s 2018-2019 season is the annual Ku Mai Ka Hula competition beginning at 1 p.m. at the MACC’s Castle Theater in Kahului. Maui’s only adult hula competition, Ku Mai Ka Hula features award-winning halau, this year from Japan and Hawaii, competing in solo and group performances. Male and female dancers perform both kahiko (traditional) and ‘auana (modern) hula stylings. Judging the competition are Kamakaokalani Herrod, Iwalani Kalima, Ulalia Woodside and Pueō Pata. Napili Kai Foundation will provide the pre-show entertainment from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 (plus applicable fees) with a 10 percent discount for MACC members and half-price for children under the age of 12. A related event, Lahui Sexuality, takes place Thursday evening (see Thursday listing on previous page). For tickets to Thursday’s and/or Saturday’s events, call 242-7469, go online at www.mauiarts.org or visit the box office.
