EXPERIENCE OKINAWAN MUSIC, DANCE, FOOD AND CULTURE AT FREE FESTIVAL

Check out the Maui Okinawan Festival, co-sponsored by Queen Ka’ahumanu Center, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at QKC’s Center Stage. This free community event features continuous Okinawan music and dance performed by local and visiting talent, as well as taiko and sanshin performers and odori dancers. Bring the entire ohana because there’s something for everyone, from a craft fair featuring Oahu and Maui vendors with arts, crafts, jewelry and more; an artifacts display reflecting Okinawan history; Okinawan food such as pig’s feet soup, chow fun, andagi and more; a Country Store offering homemade maki sushi, baked goods and a selection of mochi; and fun, festive t-shirts. For more information, call the Maui Okinawan Cultural Center at 242-1560.
