Mauian co-sponsors Big Island jazz, blues fest

The landmark Mauna Kea Beach Hotel on the Kohala Coast of Hawaii Island will present the Big Island Jazz & Blues Festival from Thursday to June 5.

The rhythmic and alluring sounds of jazz and blues will sweep the resort in partnership with HawaiiONTV.com, Jazz Alley TV, BMW of Kona and BigIslandONTV.com,

“If you want to experience a taste of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, come to the Big Island,” says Kenneth K. Martinez Burgmaier, Maui resident and owner of all the ONTV.coms involved in the festival.

“From the oceanfront setting of the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel to other amazing venues, the nearly weeklong music festival will treat patrons to Big Island debut performances by the top Grammy, Blues Music Awards and Na Hoku Hanohano winners, including jazz sax master and the Big Chief of Mardi Gras Donald Harrison, who is also from the HBO “Treme” hit TV series that featured his life story.”

Other Grammy winners are vocalist and trumpet master Kip Martin from Kool & The Gang and the DazzBand; Grammy-nominated zydecko master Corey Ledet from New Orleans; and trombone and conch-shell master Steve Turre direct from New York City’s “Saturday Night Live” house band.

“Turre has been recognized by Down Beat, JAZZIZ & Jazz Times 26 times as the best in the world,” explains Martinez Burgmaier.

“From Chicago’s Blues Hall of Fame will come inductee and guitar legend Jimmy D. Lane,” he continues; and Na Hoku winner and Maui jazz guitar master Benny Uyetake, Hilo born and raised, will be there for a Sunday brunch at the resort’s oceanfront Manta Ray restaurant.
