Maui Chamber Orchestra and Maestro Robert E. Wills present the perennial holiday favorite, George Friedrich Handel’s best-known work, “Messiah,” at the Historic Iao Theater in Wailuku. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. There will be a “Talk Story with the Artists” at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, preceding the performance, for all ticket holders.

Performing nearly the entire three-part work, MCO will be joined by the MCO Chorus and a stellar quartet of soloists such as Martina Bingham, Maya Hoover, Nathaniel McEwen and Levi Hernandez.

“Messiah” was composed in just 24 days in 1741 — an astonishing feat considering the work’s length and complexity. The piece debuted in 1742 just after Easter — the composition details the life of Christ, from birth foretold through his crucifixion to resurrection — although it is currently customarily performed at Christmas.

Tickets are $27 to $55, with $10 student tickets available with valid ID, and may be purchased by calling 242-6969 or visiting online at www.mauionstage.com or www.mauichamberorchestra.org. Senior tickets for $22 available for Sunday’s performance only from Kaunoa Senior Services, 401 Alakapa Place in Spreckelsville. Call 270-7308.
