Hawaiian legend Henry Kapono performs in concert at 3 p.m. today with the 50-plus-member Maui Pops Orchestra during the “Holiday Pops” concert at Castle Theater at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului.

The show, conducted by Music Director James Durham, will include some of Kapono’s most-loved songs, along with many holiday favorites.

Tickets are $22, $35, $50 and $60 (plus applicable fees) and are available at the box office, by calling 242-7469 or by visiting www.mauiarts.org.

Books always make great holiday presents

Maui Friends of the Library will hold a holiday used book sale from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Makawao Public Library during Makawao Town’s Christmas Celebration.

Featuring a large variety of donated pre-loved books in all genres: fiction, non-fiction, holiday books and more. Prices start at $1. All proceeds from the book sale benefit Maui Nui’s public libraries.

In addition, the library will host a holiday crafts event from noon until 3 p.m.

Good to note, every youngster aged 18 and younger gets to select a book from a designated supply to take home for free.

Decadent gold rush shopping experience

Looking for an evening of decadence? GOTTLING Home Store at The Shops of Wailea is hosting a gold rush-inspired event from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Holiday shoppers can peruse bespoke interior furnishings, fine art, unique jewelry and home accessories while sipping on California champenoise sparkling wine and indulging in gold-dusted chocolate desserts.

Shiny gold bars on display in the shop windows set the tone for the evening’s theme. Shoppers who purchase $500 or more at GOTTLING Home Store that evening will receive an authentic and certified one-gram gold bar bullion.

A live jazz concert from 5:30 to 7 p.m. featuring Phil and Angela Benoit completes the shopping experience.

This event is free and open to those 21 and older with a valid ID. A portion of the sales generated will be donated to Book Trust, an organization dedicated to providing local students the opportunity to select and own books of their choice, and encouraging greater family engagement around literacy.
