Auditions now open for 2019 Pacific Music Institute

Hawaii Youth Symphony is currently hosting auditions for the upcoming 2019 Pacific Music Institute.

Open to students ages 10 to 18 from Asia, the Pacific Rim, all Hawaii and the Mainland, this is an intensive summer program, which requires the student to have at least two years of experience on their respective instruments.

Session A runs June 29 to July 5, and offers “Solo & String Quartet Program,” “Instrumental Workshops” and “Jazz Combo Workshop.”

Session B runs July 6 to 14, and offers “OLA (Orchestral Learning Alliance) Symphony,”“Symphonic Band,” “String Orchestra” and “Large Jazz Ensemble.”

Dormitory lodging can be arranged for interested students for an additional fee.

Students are required to submit two contrasting pieces online at www. getacceptd.com. For students who audition by Friday, April 1, audition fees will be waived and priority consideration will be given for ensemble placement.

Students who audition after April 1 will be subject to a $50 audition fee.

HYS has financial aid and scholarships available for qualified families. Interested families can download the Financial Aid application from the HYS website and submit it by Wednesday, May 15.
