Culture expressed through music shines next month at Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului.

Next Sunday, Joshua Kahula and Pi’ilani Arias come together as Kahalawai, a duo that effortlessly blends vocal harmonies with a unique approach to instrumentation reflective of the rich history of their musical families.

You can see them perform at 3 p.m., June 2, at the MACC’s McCoy Studio Theater. Tickets are $25 and $35, plus applicable fees.

Then on Saturday, June 22, the 20th annual Taiko Festival takes the stage in a celebration of musicianship flavored with upbeat fun and boundless heart.

The 50 members of Zenshin Daiko will perform some of their favorite pieces as well as premiere new works written by its members.
