‘Ohina Short Film Showcase at MACC Nov. 22
The ‘Ohina Short Film Showcase will present five local films, with screenings scheduled at 7 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.
The films include “Fall Guy” by Bradley Crawford; “Other People” by Bryson Chun, “Mo’o!” by Anela Ling; “Like Maddah” by Rena Shishido; and “The Pit Where We Were Born” by Alexander Boccieri.
Chun’s “Other People” won the ‘Ohina Greenlight Award at the Filmmakers Lab, grant-ing him support and funds to produce his story.
The filmmakers will be available for a discussion post-screening.
“We couldn’t be more excited for these incredible films or more blown away by the work that our Filmmakers Lab fellows have put into bringing their scripts to the screen over the past year,” said Gerard Elmore, executive director of ‘Ohina. “With stories of loss, laughter and life-changing encounters, these films will make an impact on audiences in a powerful way, and further celebrate the amazing talent we have in Hawaii.”
The ‘Ohina Short Film Showcase features films from participants in the 2018 Filmmakers Lab, who were guest-mentored by Eric Pearson, screenwriter for Marvel’s “Thor: Rangnurok,” and Dana Ledoux Miller, TV writer for “Narcos” and “The Newsroom.”
The five shorts will be showcased at the Hawaii International Film Festival on Nov. 14 on Oahu in a special HIFF ‘Ohina Shorts Showcase presentation.
The ‘Ohina Short Film Showcase began in 1999 to support independent filmmakers by offering them a platform for their films. ‘Ohina has since grown to include a media pipeline, helping Hawaii’s storytellers bring their visions to the big screen.
General admission tickets are $14. Military, student and senior admission is $12. Tickets are available through HIFF.org and Ohina.org.
