Ruiz to play Nov. 6 at Shops at Wailea
Maui jazz artist Keoki Ruiz will be performing from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Shops at Wailea upper level retail wing.
Raised on Oahu, Ruiz started his musical career in Waikiki in the mid-1970s before relocating to Maui in 1977, where toiled as a songwriter, producer and entertainer.
In the 1980s, he was mentored by Buddy Fo and Sonny Kamaka of The Invitations, as well as renowned jazz recording artist George Benson. He continues to perform contemporary and Latin smooth jazz as a vocalist and Hawaiian slack key instrumentalist.
The free performance is part of Jazz at The Shops every first Wednesday of the month.
The Shops at Wailea also supports a different Maui nonprofit group each month with a portion of the special event parking fees going to the selected charity. The November recipient is Halau Ke’alaokamaile with Kumu Hula Keali’i Reichel.
The four-hour signature event parking voucher is available for $5 and can be purchased at the nonprofit’s parking table.
