Musician hosts guitar camp on west side, concert at the MACC

World-renowned guitarist Tommy Emmanuel will host his Holiday Guitar Getaway Dec. 28 to Jan. 1 at the Royal Lahaina Resort, and will perform at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater on Jan. 2.

Emmanuel has hosted over 11 guitar camps throughout the world over the last five years, and “The Tommy Emmanuel Holiday Guitar Getaway” will be his final retreat before taking an extended hiatus.

The retreat will include four guitar workshops throughout the day and intimate performances every night. Emmanuel will be accompanied by guest instructors, including the jazz duo of Frank Vignola and Vinny Raniolo, country picker Brent Mason, Hawaiian slack key guitarist Jeff Peterson, and Jake Shimabukuro on ukulele. Attendees will have the opportunity to jam with each instructor, as well as participate in one-on-one mentor sessions.

Vignola and Raniolo are performing as special guests for the concert. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the show starting at 7:30.

Tickets start at $29.50 and are available at mauiarts.org, by phone at 242-7469, or at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center Box Office.
