Celebrate love on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Blush cocktail from Tommy Bahama.

Can you feel the love in the air? Maui is undoubtedly one of the most romantic destinations on the planet. You can feel the love on the beach, in the ocean and in the kiss of a breeze. This island is a garden of tropical delights that keeps our plates filled with an illustrious array of fruits, fish and so much more. No wonder so many people come here to celebrate love! Our beaches, sunsets and waterfalls are perfect backdrops for proposals, weddings and anniversaries.

This is also the perfect place on Earth to celebrate our children! Even the whales bring their babies in winter to play in our warm waters. Aloha is a way of love, unconditional love, and our tiny, remote island shines with this love in a rainbow of color all year. With Valentine’s Day approaching, we are ready to celebrate that lovely tradition too with a special someone, or take yourself on a much needed self date. Here are some ideas to keep your Valentine’s Day filled with the spice of life.

Moku Roots, one of my personal all-time favorite places in Lahaina, is having special offerings in honor of Valentine’s Day. For those who prefer a vegan feast with the one you love, Moku Roots will be serving a multi-course vegan dinner on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. The menu features a cheeky list of offerings, appropriately named for this holiday. There are items with names like “I knead your buns” served with “all love oil” and a “main squeeze” entree dish of ulu (breadfruit), gnocchi, grilled asparagus and a mac-nut crusted banana flower. There are drink specials too! Dinners can be accompanied by two wine or cocktail drinks for $69 or “like a virgin” for $49. Dinner reservations recommended.

Moku Roots is at Lahaina Gateway and can be reached at (808) 214-5106.

Ruth’s Chris Steak House, located in the Shops at Wailea, is inviting you to treat the ones you love to a romantic multicourse porterhouse dinner for two starting at $129. They also have a celebration-worthy surf and turf starting at $49.94. Dine in style at one of Maui’s most iconic restaurants, known for its legendary custom-aged USDA Prime meats, cocktail menu and wine list. Dinner here will be sure to impress. For reservations, call (808) 874-8880.

Sheldon Simeon’s Lineage, located in the Shops at Wailea, is also preparing unique dishes to add to their full dinner menu in celebration of Valentine’s Day. It’s sure to be love at first bite! They will offering one of my favorites: roasted bone marrow, beef floss caramelized onions and a toasted baguette for $27. Their Kauai shrimp and crab dumplings will be dreamy for sure, served with a Meyer lemon and caviar butter sauce, on a bed of mustard greens, for $49. Aloha Valentine’s Day diners will receive a special sweet surprise of chocolate covered strawberries. For reservations, call (808) 879-8800.
