Waianapanapa to close Wednesday morning for pothole repairs

Waianapanapa State Park will be closed from 7 a.m. to noon Wednesday for roadway repairs, the state Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of State Parks announced.

Tom’s Backhoe & Excavation has been contracted to perform repair work to the lower section of Honokalani Road, just above the park. This area of the road is pitted with potholes and is in need of repair.

Campers and permittees, who are already at the park, will be allowed to leave, but they will have to return after noon when the park reopens. Honokalani Road will be closed at the top at its entrance off Hana Highway to everyone except for local traffic and residents in the area.

The State Parks Division has already contacted all commercial operators who frequent the park and the Hana Police Department. State Parks staff also have informed the residents along Honokalani Road of the closure.

This information also can be found on the DLNR State Park’s website and DLNR Facebook.
