Poster contest draws 383 entries
The Department of Water Supply’s Water Conservation Poster Contest drew 383 entries from more than 30 public, private and home schools countywide. The goal of the contest was to educate Maui County’s youth on the importance of water conservation and to encourage them to take an active role in ensuring the sustainability of our islands’ water supply.
The contest entries were evaluated based on water conservation message, originality and visual effectiveness. The top three winners in each grade category will receive $100 for first place, $75 for second, and $50 for third place. In addition, honorable mention winners will receive $15 gift cards.
Winning entries and honorable mentions will be featured in the 2014 DWS Water Conservation Calendar and on the county website at www.mauiwater.org; they also will be honored May 8 in the Mayor’s Office. The public is invited to attend.
The posters are on display at the Department of Water Supply on the fifth floor of the Kalana O Maui building in Wailuku.
The contest’s three-judges were photographer David Schoonover, Alison C. Cohan of The Nature Conservancy Maui and Department of Public Works Deputy Director Rowena Dagdag-Andaya.
