5 seniors receive total of $22K in scholarships

The Wailea Community Association awarded at total of $22,000 in scholarships to five Maui seniors at a recent reception at the Tommy Bahama Restaurant in The Shops of Wailea.

The winners, the school they attend and the college they plan to attend follow:

* Dayna Aulani Domingo Asuncion, Maui High School, University of Oregon.

* Chase Nakagawa, Kamehameha Schools Maui, University of Portland.

* Ro Ann Destinee Viloria, Maui High School, University of California-Irvine.

* Payton Wagner, Kihei Charter School, University of Washington.

* Linda Tatofi, King Kekaulike High School, University of Hawaii Maui College.

This is the 14th year the association has offered scholarships.

The community relations committee reviews academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, school-related awards, community service activities and personal statements of educational plans and career and personal goals.

“We are always impressed by the students and their families,” said Bud Pikrone, association general manager. “They all work together so well to provide this opportunity that will one day benefit the student, their family and the Maui community. We are humbled to help them achieve their goal.”
