Holy Ghost Feast begins Saturday

The Kula Catholic Community will hold its annual Holy Ghost Feast on Saturday and May 24 at the Holy Ghost Mission in Waiakoa.

On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., there will be games and a bouncing castle for children; baked goods, farmers market, jams and jellies, flowers and plants and craft vendors. There will be food for sale including Portuguese bean soup, malassadas, chow fun, hamburger and chili and rice.

The parish’s traditional free laulau meal will begin with seating at 11:15 a.m.; other seatings will follow 45 minutes apart.

A live auction of goods and services will begin at 6 p.m. It will include golf rounds, hotel stays, restaurants, health and beauty gift certificates and home-made baked goods.

Mass will be at 5 p.m. Saturday. It will be followed by a procession led by Holy Ghost Feast Queen Gabrielle Bega.

On May 24, events will continue from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mass will be at 9:30 a.m., followed by the procession. The auction of goods and services will continue at 11 a.m. and a livestock auction will be held at 2:30 p.m.

The events are held every year on the weekend of Pentecost. It is the main fundraiser for the parish, which includes Our Lady Queen of Angels in Keokea and St. James the Less Mission in Ulupalakua.

Holy Ghost Mission is located at 4300 Lower Kula Road. Parking is available at the Kula Community Center. The Maui Bus’ Kula Villager route stops at the church.
