Free programs at Kihei library

Kihei Public Library will offer the following free programs this month. All programs will be conducted in the children’s area; young children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver:

* Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. – “Storyteller Ann Nehaya Walsh: The Wisest of Creatures.” Walsh will present a daring and innovative retelling of an old Irish tale of the capture of the Wisest of Creatures. This story features the Goddess Bridget, a massive she-salmon, and the rise of giant Finn McCool, with the help of his mentor Finnis. The Maui Friends of the Library is sponsoring this one-hour program, which is suitable for ages 18 and older.

* Dec. 15, 6 p.m. – “An Evening of Hawaiian Lap Steel Guitar with Joel Katz.” See musician Joel Katz perform music and songs on the Hawaiian steel guitar. He will also discuss the instrument’s history, evolution and style in Hawaii since 1885. The Maui Friends of the Library is sponsoring this one-hour program, which is suitable for all ages.

* Dec. 30, 3 p.m. – “Wonderful Wednesday: Silly, Wise and Tricky Stories!” Children ages 5 and older are invited to see tricks and listen to stories that will make them think.

Call the library as soon as possible if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed for these programs.
