Community supports Ka Lima O Maui

Ka Lima O Maui held its annual meeting marking 63 years of ìEnhancing Lives through Self-Reliance for persons with disabilities through employment-related programs and independent living skills on Nov. 15 at the Velma McWayne Santos Community Center in Wailuku.

The annual meeting was a chance for board members, staff, clients and community partners to gather together to celebrate the many achievements accomplished throughout the year. The event and awards presentation included a Thanksgiving luncheon.

Several masters of ceremonies were used throughout the event: Lynelle Mateaki Hong, Michelle Feiteira, Matt Wanderscheid, Janice Sarol, Crystal Nunes, Juan Martinez and Brandon DeCambra.

Special guest speakers for the event were state Sen. Roz Baker and Mayor Alan Arakawa.

Nine awards were given at the annual meeting to show recognition for those who greatly contributed to Ka Lima O Maui and its mission. The categories and winners were: Ambassador of the Year — Jimmy Jones; Contract of the Year — Maui Soda and Ice Works; Custodial Employee of the Year — Jonah Wun; Grounds Employee of the Year — Romeo Visitacion; Waiver Participant of the Year — Brandon DeCambra; Job Placement of the Year — Dominic Gawrichevsky; Employer of the Year — Foodland Pukalani; and Staff of the Year — Debbie Wanderscheid.

Ka Lima O Maui provides a variety of different services, such as grounds and custodial services, job placement programs and the Medicaid Waiver Program.
