AARP TaxAide ready to help

Volunteers with AARP Foundation will be offering free tax preparation assistance at various sites on Maui beginning Feb. 2. All volunteers are certified in the TaxAide program. This free tax preparation for low- to moderate-income people will be offered at the following sites:

• Kahului Union Church, 101 W. Kamehameha Ave., Kahului, in Rooms 12 and 13 from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturdays from Feb. 2 to April 13 on a first-come, first-served basis. Do not call the church office.

• Kaunoa Senior Center in Spreckelsville on Wednesdays from Feb. 6 to April 10 (except March 20). By appointment only. Call 270-7308.

• West Maui Senior Center, 788 Pauoa St., Lahaina, on Tuesdays Feb. 5 and 19; March 5 and 19; April 2 by appointment only. Call 270-4310.

• Kihei Community Center at corner of Lipoa Street and Piilani Highway from 8:30 a.m. to noon on a first-come, first-served basis on Feb. 4 and 25; March 11 and 25; and April 8.

Taxpayers need to bring photo ID and Social Security cards for all family members. If married and filing jointly, both spouses must be present. Also bring 2017 federal and state tax returns and current tax documents — W-2s, 1099s (interest, dividends, pension or IRA distributions) and evidence of medical insurance. The volunteers do not do returns with rental income or anything with depreciation.

If applying for the Hawaii Rental Credit, taxpayers must have the owner’s GET number.

Free e-filing of returns will be done.
