Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset to award scholarships
The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset is awarding two $2,500 academic scholarships to two graduating seniors who live in West Maui, Hana or Molokai and attend a Maui or Molokai high school. The students should demonstrate superior academic abilities, involvement in school activities and a winning character profile, and must be pursuing a field of study that will benefit the environment.
The scholarship highlights the club’s commitment to support the educational goals of local youths. “Knowledge is power and we are thrilled to help a senior student reach his or her educational goals,” said Erica Gale, youth service chair. “We’re pleased to support the education of two local students who will have the opportunity to continue sustainability efforts on Maui well into the future,” she said.
The academic awards also reflect the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset’s focus on environmental initiatives, a core mission that is realized through sustainability projects and its “Go Green” Third Saturday Recycling event held monthly at the Lahaina Cannery Mall.
The scholarships will be provided in two installments. The first, for one-half of the scholarship amount, will be dispersed to the college when evidence of enrollment is presented to the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset. The remaining half of the scholarship will be paid to the recipient’s college when evidence of successful completion of 12 semester hours is presented to the club.
The application deadline is April 26. To receive a scholarship application or to learn more about the award, email Gale at email@example.com or call/text her at 214-2263.
