Zenshin Daiko will celebrate its 20th anniversary on Saturday by taking a trip to Japan. The nonprofit organization is dedicated to teaching taiko to children and sharing it with the community.

Zenshin Daiko has performed all over Maui and the Neighbor Islands and in California, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Texas and Nevada and Japan. Since forming in 1999, ZD has had over 50 performances a year and had its 1,000th gig on Jan. 14.

In addition to growing from a small, local taiko group to one that has achieved national and international recognition, Zenshin Daiko has been recognized as a leading builder of taiko drums from used wine barrels. Besides building most of the drums that the group uses, ZD has built and repaired taiko for other groups and churches all over the islands.
