Foundations and entities who contributed recently to Maui County community nonprofits and others are as follows:

The Na Wahine O Ke Kai Race Committee, producers of the 2019 Hawaiian Airlines Na Wahine O Ke Kai Molokai to Oahu Women’s Outrigger Canoe Race, announced that it will receive $5,000 from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, Ahahui Community grant.

The event is considered the world championship of outrigger canoe racing. The participants, of which 60 percent are Native Hawaiian and 80 percent are from the state of Hawaii, will come together to strengthen their identity and to preserve, practice and perpetuate their culture on Sept. 22.

The Safeway Foundation presented a $25,000 check to the Pacific Cancer Foundation during the opening ceremony of the new Ho’okele Safeway in Kahului on July 25. This gift is the latest in a 10-year partnership that has seen Safeway donate over $215,000 to the Maui-based cancer foundation. Community leaders and Safeway executives were present for the event.

“All this money stays in Maui County to help cancer patients, survivors, their caregivers and families,” said Nancy La Joy, executive director of the Pacific Cancer Foundation in Wailuku. “Last year we helped over 4,000 families in Maui County, and we couldn’t have done it without the Safeway Foundation. We are very happy to be part of their ohana.”

The “Fireworks, Fairways, and Freedom” program crafted by Kapalua Golf Courses (Troon Golf) was held over Fourth of July weekend to raise funds for the charitable foundation PGA Helping Our Patriots Everywhere.

Kapalua Golf donated $5 off all tee times and greens fees to PGA Hope fund. In addition, a contest was held on hole No. 2 where participating golfers could donate $10 for a chance to win a discount merchandise card to use at the Bay Course Golf Shop.

The total amount raised for the PGA Hope Program was $1,875.

PGA HOPE is the flagship military program of PGA REACH, the 501(c)(3) charitable foundation of the PGA of America. PGA HOPE is a free therapeutic adaptive golf program that is open to all military veterans from all combat theaters, with an emphasis on serving those with physical and emotional disabilities.
