The board of directors of the Makawao History Museum has announced the hiring of its first executive director, Morris Haole. Haole was born and raised on Maui, attended St. Joseph School and St. Anthony School and is finishing up a degree in fine arts.

Haole retired after 28 years in government service and always had an interest in historical preservation, according to an announcement.

The board spent the last few years planning and working toward this step forward in its leadership. After assessing applicants, the board determined that Haole is deeply passionate about the Makawao History Museum, has the skills and experience needed to lead the museum, and a clear vision for taking the organization forward.
