Catch and release fishing tournament winners announced

The fourth annual Keiki and ‘Ohana Catch & Release Fishing Tournament was held Oct. 26 within the Kahekili Herbivore Fisheries Management Area as part of the 10th annual Ridge to Reef Rendezvous.

Fifty-three youths and their families entered the tournament. Winners in the tournament’s categories:

Papio first place: Purnat Durso (5.75“), Papio second place: Aubrey Phillips (5.5”), Papio third place: Kaos Samudio (5.25“), Papio fourth place: Zachary Valdez Jr (5.1”); Other first place: Kanoelani Hapakuka (13.75” lai), Other second place: Aiden Pacheco (10.5″ humu), Other third place: Nash Okano (9.75” hagi), Other fourth place: Kaleb Okano (9.5″ weke); First Fish: Kanon Kayyem (7″ humu).

The tournament was organized by the Hawaii Department of Natural Resources, Division of Aquatic Resources. Prizes for the tournament were donated by All About Fish, Maui Sporting Goods, New Maui Fishing Supply, and West Maui Sports & Fishing Supply.
