The Maui Farm pays tribute to volunteer of year
The Maui Farm has announced that Tiara Sylva has received its first “Volunteer of The Year” award.
“We are grateful for each of our wonderful volunteers,” said Executive Director Stacey Moniz, “and wanted to highlight the importance of their contributions. We decided that naming a ‘Volunteer of the Year’ was a great place to start.
“Tiara has volunteered at the farm consistently since October 2016, participating in the gardening programs with the women residents and staff,” said Moniz. “She comes every Wednesday for community gardening and is always excited to work on The Farm, pulling weeds, planting seeds in the nursery, feeding the animals or helping with any task we are doing. We really love having Tiara at The Maui Farm.”
Sylva, who works at Safeway, says, “The Maui Farm is my happy place.” She thinks more people should volunteer at the Makawao nonprofit. “It’s a good workout and there are beautiful people. Volunteering is a wonderful thing.”
The Maui Farm Inc. is a community-based nonprofit organization providing transitional housing for families who are homeless due to domestic violence and other economic challenges.
