Beachfest set at Paia Bay Jan. 25-26
The 23rd annual Pa’ia Bay Beachfest, a showcase for Maui’s young bodyboarders and surfers, will take place Jan. 25 and 26 on the beach at Pa’ia Youth & Cultural Center. Beachfest 2020 is presented by Positively+KAI (Kai Lenny), PYCC alumni and staff, and community-minded individuals and businesses.
The first heat is in the water at 8 a.m. Jan. 25 following the event blessing ceremony. All Beachfest registration will be done online only at pyccmaui.org. Event check-in begins at 7 a.m. Jan. 25. Athletes who wish to enter the “Winner Take All” Pro-Am division will need to bring $20 cash during check-in. Divisions include Menehune, Juniors, Wahine, Kane, Drop Knee and Maui’s only Soft-Top Surfing.
Beachfest features special guests, emcees and judges, including world-champion waterman Kai Lenny.
Food will be available for purchase Jan. 25 from Pakamon Thai Food Truck, and on Jan. 26 from PYCC staff and alumni. An awards ceremony and live music by PYCC alumni T-Flatz and the Plantation Kids kicks off at PYCC at 4 p.m. Jan. 26.
This is an alcohol-, drug- and tobacco-free event for the whole family.
