Lahaina teachers named Educators of the Month
Katie Keenan and Janell Simpliciano of Princess Nahi’ena’ena Elementary School were named Educators of the Month for November and December by Duke’s Beach House.
Keenan, a special education teacher, was awarded for being dedicated to meeting the needs of her kindergarten students. She is described as being a kind, caring and knowledgeable educator who works exceptionally well with students and colleagues.
Simpliciano, a 2nd grade teacher, was recognized for her willingness to try new strategies to effectively meet the social, emotional and academic learning needs of her students. She has worked closely with the school garden coordinator to provide outdoor learning opportunities for 2nd graders, and has managed the “Gotcha Store” as part of the schoolwide positive behavior and interventions systems.
“We are so happy to be able to recognize the hardworking staff at Princess Nahi’ena’ena Elementary School and celebrate the great work they do for our keiki,” said Nick Ware, Duke’s Beach House general manager. “Education is so vital and we are proud to acknowledge teachers that are going above and beyond for their students.”
Keenan and Simpliciano were presented with engraved koa boxes and $100 gift certificates to Duke’s Beach House.
