Nominations sought for local volunteer heroes

April 3 deadline for nominations

Nominations are being accepted for the annual Volunteer Hero Celebration of Service, hosted by the County of Maui Department of Housing and Human Concerns’ Volunteer Center.

Individuals who volunteer with a nonprofit or government volunteer program are eligible to be nominated.

The program aims to recognize, honor and celebrate Maui volunteers making a major local impact.

These volunteers may have dedicated hundreds of hours of support, filled a unique and pivotal role for a nonprofit organization, went above and beyond the job description, or made a positive change in some way.

Recognizing Maui’s volunteers is one of our biggest events of the year,” said Volunteer Center Coordinator Wendy Stebbins. “Everyone who volunteers their time to help our community is a hero, and the Volunteer Hero Celebration of Service event is the perfect opportunity to assist organizations in showing their sincere gratitude to the individuals whose dedication and commitment truly make a difference in the lives of others.”

Volunteers will be recognized at the annual Volunteer Hero Celebration of Service from 10:30 a.m. to noon May 15 in the Mayor’s Conference Room on the ninth floor of the Kalana O Maui Building.

The nominating organization must be a nonprofit or government volunteer program. Nominators and nominees will be treated to an awards ceremony organized by the Volunteer Center.

Only one nominee application is accepted per organization.

The deadline to submit an application is April 3. The nomination form can be found at www.handsonmaui.com/volunteer-hero-nomination-form/.
