‘Share and Care’ program helps cancer ‘warriors’

To address the new challenges of supporting cancer survivors during these unprecedented times, Katherine Barthels, an alumnus of the Maui Cancer Wellness Retreats, recognized the need for a stronger community support system. Along with cancer survivor Jacky Mulder, they created weekly “Share and Care” Virtual Check-In sessions, available every Thursday from 9-10 a.m. Their program offers a safe haven for cancer “warriors” to share their concerns and worries in a facilitated virtual online program. Due to COVID-19, Maui Cancer Wellness Retreats canceled its annual 3-day Retreat and its bi-monthly Daytreats on Maui and Molokai were postponed until it is safe to hold onsite classes. Dr. Bridget Bongaard, director of Maui Cancer Wellness Retreats, will be providing a “Create and Transform” online series that will provide evidence-based information and tools for coping with symptoms, feelings, relationships, and developing a sense of well-being in a supportive community.

“We teach the science of self-care, healing and more, all in one spot and welcome you to join us on the Maui Cancer Wellness Retreats website and learn to heal from within,” said Dr. Bongaard.
