Franco heads Stand Up Maui

Stand Up Maui, an organization advocating for justice and peace, announced its new officers for the year with Stan Franco as president.

At its July 29 meeting, the organization, formerly FACE Maui, also named Lucienne de Naie, vice president; Lawrence Carnicelli, secretary; and Michael Williams, treasurer.

Other directors include Joyce Afalla, Vince Bagoyo, Denise Boswell, Kevin Carney and Thelma Akita-Kealoha.

Over the last 10 years, Stand Up Maui and FACE Maui have worked on the community problems of inadequate and unaffordable housing, services to immigrants and higher pay for low-income workers.

The group is working with the County Council develop a road map to build homes for working and homeless people and to back a charter amendment on the November ballot calling for increasing the annual property tax allocation to the Affordable Housing Fund to 3 percent.
