Cultural Society to host actor-philanthropist

The Japanese Cultural Society of Maui will feature Japanese-American actor and philanthropist Shin Koyamada as the guest speaker at its virtual Shinnen Enkai celebration at 6 p.m. today.

There is no cost to attend. Sponsorship and advertising opportunities are available.

Koyamada is the chairman and CEO of Shinca Group and manages multiple global businesses. He is best known for his roles in “The Last Samurai” and “Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior.”

Koyamada is also known for his global philanthropic efforts through the Koyamada International Foundation, which works to improve people’s quality of life by empowering youth and women to reach their full potential and by providing humanitarian aid to promote global peace and sustainable development.

As Tokyo’s Olympics ambassador for karate, Koyamada holds black belts in Japanese and Korean martial arts and won U.S. national championships in Chinese martial arts. He immigrated from Japan to the U.S. in 2000.
