Personal trainer program offered

The University of Hawaii Maui College is accepting applications for a new personal fitness trainer certificate program that will begin at the end of January and run through the end of August.

The program is sponsored by Hui No Ke Ola Pono in an effort to increase workforce opportunities for Native Hawaiians. Space in the program is limited.

The non-credit certificate program is designed to prepare participants for entry-level positions in the health and fitness industry, including at fitness clubs and gyms, health and wellness centers, school athletic programs and personal training for individual clients.

Participants will attend weekly online classes to study for the industry-recognized American Council for Exercise’s Personal Trainer Certification. In addition, martial arts classes will be taught outdoors on the UH-Maui College campus in the afternoons, and weight training classes will be held in the mornings at the UH-Maui Fit gym.

Program applicants must be 18 or older and must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. To learn more, email Leilani Kepler at lkepler@ hawaii.edu.
