Virtual whale watches for kids

The Pacific Whale Foundation will host weekly virtual whale watch sessions for kids starting Feb. 16.

PWF will bring the whales to students during one-hour sessions offered multiple times daily Tuesdays through Fridays until May 21. There will be 7 a.m. HST time slots available for East Coast-based participants.

The sessions will feature virtual programming designed to mimic an actual whale watch experience as closely as possible. The sessions will combine pre-recorded footage filmed off the coast of Maui with live virtual interaction and online video conferencing with PWF education specialists. Also included are appropriate grade-level curriculum encompassing a library of online lessons and lesson plans to enhance the experience through engaging hands-on activities undertaken individually or collaboratively within a classroom setting.

“Our goal is to provide the most engaging and impactful experience we can offer at this time,” said PWF Education Manager Robyn Ehrlich. “Appreciation and care for the environment are crucial now, more than ever. Our programs provide opportunities for keiki to form and strengthen connections with the ocean.”

The virtual whale watch is free for students attending Maui County schools. For a discount code, contact PWF’s Education department at 856-8341 or education@pacificwhale.org.

The cost for non-Maui County educational institutions is $50 per program.
