Wreath-making workshop offered

Karen’s Christmas Crossing will offer a free, “do-it-for-yourself” holiday wreath- and bouquet-making workshop from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 20, at 2800 Kokomo Rd. in Haiku.

Attendees will create their own pine and evergreen designs accented with local fauna and merry treasures. No experience is necessary and all supplies are included.

Holiday decor, handmade crafts and other items will be available for purchase.

Hawaiian history topic of AAUW meeting

The life of Elia Helekunihi, a Native Hawaiian teacher, pastor, lawyer, politician and author, will be discussed at the American Association of University Women’s virtual meeting at 10 a.m. on Nov. 27.

Guest speaker Rev. Andrew Walmisley will explore Hawaiian history through the life of Helekunihi and the Hawaiians’ resistance to U.S. colonialism in the 19th century.

Brewpub fundraiser to benefit birds

Maui Brewing Company Brewpub in Lahaina will host “Pint Night for the Birds” from 6 to 10 p.m. on Nov. 26.

Half of the profits from all house beers sold will benefit the Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project, which works to recover Maui’s endangered birds and restore their habitats through research, development and application of conservation techniques.

Maui Brewing Company Brewpub is located in the Kahana Gateway Shopping Center, 4405 Honoapiilani Hwy., Lahaina.

‘The MEO Minute’ debuts on Akaku

Maui Economic Opportunity recently debuted a weekly segment on Akaku Maui Community Media’s “The Maui Daily” news show.

The segment, called “The MEO Minute,” will appear on Wednesdays. “The Maui Daily” airs weekdays live at 4 p.m. with replays at 7 p.m., 9 p.m. and midnight. Jena Arcangel Miller hosts the show.

“The MEO Minute” will feature alternating commentators. The commentator for the next segment on Nov. 10 will be Cassi Yamashita, MEO’s director of community services, who will focus on rental/mortgage and utility assistance available through the nonprofit.

Maui Mall Village food drive underway

Maui Mall Village will host its “Thanks for Giving Food Drive” through the month of November.

Nonperishable dry goods, canned goods and checks made payable to “Maui Food Bank” can be dropped off at participating Maui Mall Village retailers, including Cricket Wireless, Fun Factory, Hawaii Hunters, Hawaiian Island Creations, Maui Candy Co. and YNVU Clothing Company.

“We are honored to partner with the Maui Food Bank and support local families during this time of need,” said Brian Yano, vice president and group manager of Maui Retail JLL. “We hope to bring the community closer together this holiday season with more initiatives like this.”

Donations needed for ‘blessings bags’

Lahaina’s Mauna Kahalawai Lions Club Branch, a branch club of Maui Lions Club, is now seeking donations to fill “blessings bags” for Maui’s less fortunate.

Needed items include small or travel-size soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, hand sanitizer and toothpaste, as well as toothbrushes, towels, sheets, face masks and other personal hygiene items. The club is hoping to pass out approximately 200 blessings bags this year.

Donations will be accepted through Nov. 19 at the Keller Williams Realty Maui office in the Fairway Shops at Kaanapali from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
