Club to discuss Rotary youth awards

The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards program will be the subject of the Kihei-Wailea Rotary Club’s upcoming meeting at noon on Wednesday.

The meeting will take place at Kihei Lutheran Church at 220 Moi Place.

Participants should bring their own sack lunch.

Jerman scholarship seeks applicants

The Josh and Souk Jerman Foundation is accepting applications for the 2022 Josh and Souk Jerman Foundation Scholarship, a program that encourages college-bound students to use their education to benefit Maui County.

The deadline to apply is Feb. 22, 2022.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be Maui County residents already enrolled or enrolling in a full-time program at any four-year accredited college or university for the 2022-23 academic year. Applicants must also demonstrate financial need and plan to return and work in Maui County after graduation.

“I encourage all college-bound students in Maui County who have a desire to contribute positively to our community to apply,” Jerman said. “Since the scholarship was founded, there have been numerous students who have graduated and returned to Maui County with a purpose and desire to support our community and island lifestyle.”

Hongwanji Mission to hold thrift sale

Kahului Hongwanji Mission will hold a thrift shop sale from 8 a.m. to noon on Dec. 11.

Items for sale include children’s clothing, toys, books and DVDs. Warm clothing, linen and fabric remnants will also be for sale.

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination, ID, face masks and social distancing are required.

The temple is located at 291 S. Puunene Ave. in Kahului.


BHS to provide holiday wrapping

The Baldwin High School Class of 2023 and the school’s Parent Community Networking Center program will provide holiday gift wrapping outside of the Barnes & Noble store in the Maui Marketplace shopping center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 15-17 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 18-19.

Donations will be accepted. Funds raised will benefit the school’s junior prom and Parent Community Networking Center program events.

Free dental services for kids offered

Kids under the age of 18 can receive free X-rays, dental exams, teeth cleanings, fillings and other dental services during the first “Sea of Smiles” Dental Day at the University of Hawaii Maui College from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 11.

The event is open to all children and no dental insurance is needed. A group of eight dentists, 15 hygienists and 20 dental hygiene students will volunteer at the event.

Church estate sale set for Dec. 11

Good Shepherd Episcopal Church will hold an estate sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 11 in the church’s Lufkin Parish Hall.

Items for sale include kitchenware, furniture and household items.

There will be controlled and limited entry to ensure social distancing. Face masks are required.

Good Shepherd Episcopal Church is located at 2140 Main St. in Wailuku.


MEO youth to offer free gift wrapping

Free gift wrapping by Maui Economic Opportunity Youth Services will be available from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 22, at the MEO Family Center.

A drive-thru drop-off area will be set up in the parking lot. Individuals will be contacted by phone or text when gifts are ready for pickup.

Gift drop-offs will be accepted until 1 p.m.

Donations will be accepted. Funds raised will be used for activities for high school and intermediate youths in the program.
