Moon Festival at the Wo Hing Museum
A Chinese Moon Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Wo Hing Museum in Lahaina.
This free event commemorates one of the most important Chinese holidays, according to an announcement.
Traditionally, the Moon Festival is considered a harvest festival, as fruits, vegetables and grains are in abundance. The Moon Festival is also an occasion for family reunions.
Exhibits and displays are can be viewed from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with presentations on the history and significance of the Moon Festival from Busaba Yip from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and again from 7 to 8 p.m. both days.
Calligraphy demonstrations Friday and Chinese knot-tying activities Saturday begin at 3 p.m., with children’s activities scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m., including lantern- and fan-making and harvest planting both days.
Tea and moon cakes will be served under the star fruit tree from 4 to 7 p.m., with authentic Chinese food available from 5 to 8 p.m. Chinese music with be performed from 4 to 7 p.m., with a community lantern and fan dance. Flower and fruit offerings can be made.
Gifts and souvenirs will be available for purchase in the museum.
Moon cakes are available for purchase. Large moon cakes are $7 and small are $3, with boxes of eight small or four large moon cakes costing $25.
