The Pan-STARRS project consists of two 2-meter-class wide-field telescopes each equipped with giga-pixel cameras.

The observing strategy is optimized to search the sky for transient objects. Pan-STARRS 1 has been collecting science data since 2010 and Pan-STARRS 2 is expected to be commissioned by the fall.

This talk will outline the history of the project and highlight some of its scientific achievements.
