Bridge being replaced

A Hawaiian Dredging Construction Co. crew installs temporary sheet piling as part of preparations for replacing a South Kihei Road bridge near Sugar Beach. The $1.9 million drainage repair project involves replacing pipe culverts with concrete box culverts, according to the county website. South Kihei Road is closed between North Kihei and Uwapo roads. The project received its notice to proceed July 24 and is expected to take 4 1/2 months to complete.
