Work continues on Lahaina bypass extension
The 2.6-mile stretch of the Lahaina bypass currently under construction from Launiupoko toward Olowalu, near Cut Mountain, abruptly ends above Honoapiilani Highway in Olowalu in this photo taken Nov. 17. Residents have expressed concerns about the southern terminus of the bypass with Honoapiilani Highway. Under plans presented by the state Transportation Department, vehicles traveling to Lahaina would not be able to stay on the coastal Honoapiilani Highway. This $38.7 million project is 53 percent complete, according to the state Transportation Department’s Highways Program Status website. The project, which will take the bypass from Hokiokio Place to past Launiupoko, is expected to be completed in March.
