Fire damages Kaanapali kiosk

The Maui News – A small fire caused $150,000 in damages to a kiosk at the Marriott Ocean Club in Kaanapali on Friday night, according to a fire official.

Crews received a call about the fire at 9:40 p.m. Friday, and a Lahaina crew was on scene at 9:48 p.m., Fire Services Chief Ed Taomoto said. The fire was contained at 10:12 p.m. and extinguished at 12:39 a.m. Saturday.

The fire burned about half of the 1,000-square-foot kiosk, which offered activities and gear rentals to visitors, Taomoto said. The incident caused about $80,000 in damages to the structure and $70,000 to the contents.

The cause of the fire was undetermined, though nothing indicated it was intentional, Taomoto said.

No one was injured, and no other structures were damaged.
