Parents warned of stranger danger
Maui Waena Intermediate School sent out a letter to parents on Wednesday warning them about an incident where a man waved to students in trying to get them to approach his vehicle Wednesday morning in Kahului.
The incident occurred around 7:10 a.m. as two students were walking to school on nearby Palama Drive. They were approached by an older-model, gray Mazda Miata driven by an unknown older male, the letter said.
The man waved to the students, beckoning them to approach the vehicle.
The students ran to school and reported the incident to school staff.
The Maui Police Department was notified immediately and an investigation is underway, according to the letter.
