Trucker’s run aims to fight cancer, fund research
More than 500 runners take off Saturday morning for the Trucker Dukes Memorial 5K at the old Maui High School in Hamakuapoko. The run dedicated to the 3-year-old Haiku boy who died one year ago after battling a rare and aggressive pediatric cancer helped raise money for people with cancer and fund innovative research for a cure. “It means the world to us going through what we went through and having the love and support of Maui and the fire service and people worldwide,” said Trucker’s father, Joshua Dukes, a firefighter. “Being able to be a part of this and give back on the other end gives us purpose. That even in the darkness there’s goodness.”
