Sharp focus on the ball at baseball clinic

Former big league baseball player Mike Diaz gives Kaikanoa Ka’ahanui, 10, tips on hitting during a clinic Tuesday at Hitter’s Paradise in Kihei. Diaz, who played in the major leagues for the Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago White Sox, and also professionally in Japan, is scheduled to hold his Summer Power Hitting School through August. The four-day clinics are held Tuesday to Friday, with instruction for high school players from 8 to 10 a.m. and for youth players ages 7 to 13 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. “The number one thing we try to teach these players is the proper mechanics,” Diaz said.
