Applications continue to be accepted for rental voucher subsidies for the first phase of the Hale Mahaolu Ewalu senior housing project in Pukalani, according to an announcement from Hale Mahaolu and Maui County.

The deadline to apply is 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The Housing Choice Voucher Program provides rental assistance to qualified low-income families and individuals. Maximum income levels are based on family size and range from $33,050 for a single person to $47,200 for a family of four.

The program covers the portion of rent exceeding 30 percent of a family’s monthly income. The acceptance of applicants is based on income verification and eligibility requirements. Applicants undergo a screening process.

A lottery system will determine the order for initial occupancy. Eligible applicants not selected for initial occupancy will be put on a waiting list.

Applications can be picked up at the county Department of Housing and Human Concerns’ Housing Choice Voucher Office. It is at 35 Lunalilo St., Suite 400, in Wailuku.

The rental housing project has 36 one-bedroom, one-bath units and two two-bedroom, one-bath units.
